How This Works
Pace = total time ÷ distance. Finish time = pace × distance. Distance = time ÷ pace. Pace in min/km × 1.609344 = pace in min/mile. Speed in km/h = distance (km) ÷ time (hours).
For a first marathon, a 5:30–6:00/km pace (finishing in ~3:52–4:14) is a common target. This corresponds to running easy — able to hold a conversation. Most first-timers benefit from the run/walk method: run 4 minutes, walk 1 minute. This reduces injury risk and often results in similar or faster finish times than running continuously.
